Psychotria nervosa ‘Little Psycho’ is a small, long-lived shrub that’s native to Florida. It’s also known as Dwarf Shiny-leaf Wild-coffee. The shrub gets its name from the small, red, ellipsoid fruit it produces. The fruit resembles a coffee bean, but it contains no caffeine. The seeds can be roasted and used as a caffeine-free coffee substitute. The shrub has more blooms and berries than the typical wild coffee. It’s attractive to wildlife, including the northern mockingbird, blue jays, cardinals, and catbirds.
