Dark velvet with a weight you can feel. Alocasia watsoniana ‘Velvety’ produces thick, stiff, upright leaves with a deep green, matte-velvet surface and prominent pale veining. The texture is dense and tactile, closer to suede than to the glossy finish of most Alocasias. The leaves are held upright on sturdy petioles, creating a compact, architectural silhouette. It is a slow grower that stays manageable, and the velvet texture intensifies as the plant matures. A collector species that rewards patience and consistent humidity.

Origins
Native to Borneo, Alocasia watsoniana grows in the humid tropical forest understorey at low elevations. ‘Velvety’ is selected for the particular depth and softness of its velvet leaf texture.

Soil and Substrate
Our Alocasia Premium Potting Mix is peat-free and formulated for Alocasias, with a chunky, well-draining structure that prevents waterlogging.
