Chlorophytum comosum ‘Vittatum’, the Spider Plant, has long, arching, strap-shaped leaves with a broad central white stripe and green margins. As the plant matures, it sends out wiry stolons tipped with miniature plantlets that dangle like a living mobile, making it a natural choice for a hanging planter. It is famously easy to care for, tolerating a wide range of light conditions, inconsistent watering, and general neglect.

Origins
Native to tropical and southern Africa, Chlorophytum comosum grows in forest margins and shaded riverbanks. ‘Vittatum’ is one of the earliest variegated cultivars, distinguished by its central white leaf stripe.

Soil and Substrate
Our Simply Houseplant Tropical Potting Mix provides a well-draining, peat-free blend for this species.
