Most orchids for-sale are on their first blooming cycle. While many are thrown out once those flowers fade, as Orchids age they produce bigger and more spectacular blooms. Water with room-temperature water (not ice cubes: this is a common misconception, as colder temperatures shock the roots). Provide bright, indirect light (some direct sun is okay) and fertilize regularly when not in bloom using an orchid-specific formula. Use a clear pot with drainage to monitor root coloursilvery roots mean its time to water. Repot only when not flowering to prevent shock. After flowering, allow the flower spike to turn fully yellow before pruning it so the plant can reabsorb nutrients.
